Amnesty International Labelled Catholic Bishops’ Conference “Against Human Rights”

The controversial organisation Amnesty International UK published a report on 8 July listing the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales among 117 organizations it described as part of an “anti-rights movement” in the United Kingdom.
The report, A Growing Threat: the Anti-Rights Movement in the UK, said the listed organizations formed an ecosystem seeking to undermine the rights of women and homosexuals.
It also named the Catholic Medical Association, Premier Christian News, J.K. Rowling’s women-only support service Beira’s Place, and a number of Christian, pro-life, and gender-critical organizations.
The report defined “anti-rights actors” as groups, individuals, and public or private bodies seeking to weaken human rights protections in law and practice.
The publication drew criticism from a number of the organizations named.
Two days after publication, Amnesty International UK withdrew the report. It said the document had been published without passing the organization's …Aktar

Leo XIV Accepts Resignation of Peruvian Bishop – Accused of Homosexual Abuse

Today, Leo XIV accepted the resignation of Italian born Bishop Antonio Santarsiero Rosa, 75, of Huacho, Peru. No successor was appointed.
The resignation follows allegations of homosexual misconduct. In April 2026, InfoVaticana.com had reported that complaints had been submitted to the Apostolic Nunciature in Lima and to the Vatican, accusing Santarsiero of homosexually abusing a former minor seminarian and a priest who had served as his secretary.
As usual, Santarsiero has categorically denied all allegations.
The seminarian claimed Santarsiero subjected him to unwanted sexual contact and used promises of scholarships, employment, and opportunities within the diocese to exercise influence over him.
The former secretary to Santarsiero alleges that the bishop subjected him to unwanted physical contact and psychological manipulation. According to the dossier, the priest also claims Santarsiero attempted to discredit him by spreading claims about his sexual orientation after he rejected …Aktar

Bishop Suspends Six Priests, Introduces Strict Discipline

Bishop Hieronymus Emusugut Joya of Maralal, Kenya, has suspended six diocesan priests as part of a sweeping package of measures. They are aimed at strengthening discipline and financial accountability.
The suspensions follow allegations of abuse of ecclesiastical authority, administrative negligence, and the mismanagement of Church property. Announcing the decision during Mass on 12 July, Bishop Joya said he had acted only after receiving credible evidence.
The suspensions affect a significant proportion of the diocese's clergy. Established by St. John Paul II in 2001, the diocese has 15 parishes served by 30 diocesan priests.
Alongside the suspensions, Bishop Joya introduced a series of disciplinary and administrative directives for clergy, including:
- Priests must return to their residences by 7:00 p.m. for evening prayer.
- Priests require the bishop's permission to spend the night away from their residence.
- No lay person may stay overnight in a priest's residence without prior …Aktar

Cardinal Müller Misrecites Latin during Ordination: On 4 July, during the ordination of three priests for the Institut du Bon Pasteur in Courtalain, France, Cardinal Müller said "manus" ("hand") instead of "munus" ("office" or "ministry"). The correct wording would have been: "...so that they may persevere in this office."

Cardinal Müller said "manus" instead of "munus.
Müller was supposed to say: “Da, quæsumus, omnipotens Pater, in hos famulos tuos Presbyterii dignitatem; innova in visceribus eorum Spiritum sanctitatis, ut acceptum a Te, Deus, secundi meriti munus obtineant, censuramque morum exemplo suæ conversationis insinuent.” (“Grant, we beseech Thee, Almighty Father, invest these Thy servants with the dignity of the Priesthood; do Thou renew in their hearts the spirit of holiness, so that they may persevere in this office, which is next to ours in dignity, since they have received it from Thee, O God. May the example of their lives lead others to moral uprightness.”)
Instead, Müller actually said: “Da, quæsumus, omnipotens Pater, in hos famulos tuos Presbyterii dignitatem; innova in visceribus eorum Spiritum sanctitatis, ut acceptum a Te, Deus, secundi meriti manus obtineant, censuramque morum exemplo suæ conversationis insinuent.” (“Grant, we beseech Thee, Almighty Father, invest these Thy servants …Aktar

A few days ago, in a KTV interview regarding the FSSPX, he stated that it was a "liturgical impossibility" for the Superior General, as a priest, to preach before bishops during an episcopal ordination. And yet, he himself utters an incorrect term during the Consecration. Well, as long as no priest preached there, it certainly isn't a "liturgical impossibility" according to the Cardinal's definition....

Archbishop Aguer: Traditionis Custodes Fueled Interest in the Roman Rite

Traditionis Custodes (2021) deepened wounds and, contrary to what Pope Francis intended, contributed to growing interest in the Roman rite, Archbishop Emeritus Héctor Aguer, 83, of La Plata, Argentina, wrote in a July 13 statement.
He notes that the Roman rite is especially popular among the young and contributes to “a good portion of conversions.”
“The transmission of the faith,” he adds, “is no longer passed, to a significant degree, from parents to children but from young people to young people.”
Monsignor Aguer says that “persecution or the extreme measures of progressivism” will not stop this growing movement. It goes “far beyond mere fashion” - whereas the fashion over the past sixty years has been to turn the Novus Ordo into an anything-goes vehicle of liturgical devastation.
He writes that the four Eucharistic Prayers of the Novus Ordo have effectively been displaced by “Eucharistic Prayer Zero” - whatever happens to occur to the celebrant at the moment.
In Argentina, the proportion …Aktar

Archbishop Aguer, Argentina, on the Traditional Mass: “Traditionis Custodes, issued five years ago, far from healing the wounds, only deepened them. And contrary to what its promoter sought, it contributed to a growing interest in Tradition and Orthodoxy, especially among young people. Today, a good portion of conversions occur among those who prefer the ancient rite (of the Mass). And the transmission of the faith, to a great extent, is no longer passed from parents to children, but from young people to young people”

Jesus Mosaic from Plastic Bottle Caps: Students from Instituto Nuestra Señora de Lourdes in Buenos Aires, Argentina, have created a mosaic of the face of Jesus using thousands of plastic bottle caps. The face is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper. The project was shared by their art teacher, Sebastián Ramírez. He included the phrase "Soli Deo Gloria" ("Glory to God alone") in the post. The students have previously created mosaics honoring Pope Francis, Salvador Dalí, and Lionel Messi.

Euthanasia Bill Rapporteur Attends Mass, Takes Offense at Anti-Euthanasia Homily

"One does not care for life by giving death," Father François Yambressinga, parish priest of La Madeleine in Châteaudun, said during his July 5 homily, before the French National Assembly's final vote on legalizing euthanasia tomorrow. He urged the faithful to "pray for life" and to "pray for parliamentarians so that they do not do just anything."
Among the congregation was Philippe Vigier, the bill's general rapporteur. He is also the mayor of Châteaudun and a member of the National Assembly for Les Démocrates.
Vigier attended the Mass because it was part of the town's annual Foire aux Laines medieval festival. Civic officials appear in costume. He sat in the front row dressed as the fifteenth-century military commander Jean de Dunois.
Afterward, Vigier told L'Écho Républicain that he felt personally targeted and "deeply hurt" by the homily. "The priest appealed to the congregation while I had no opportunity to respond. That is unacceptable," he said.
According to witnesses cited by …Aktar

During the Mass on July 5, at the Church of the Madeleine in Châteaudun, Father François Yambressinga condemned the proposed law on assistance in dying in his homily, while Deputy-Mayor Philippe Vigier, co-general rapporteur of the bill, was seated in the front row. The elected official, who said he felt "personally attacked," then spoke with the priest after the celebration. The latter is supported by the Bishop of Chartres.

Catholic Confronts Argentine Priest - Receiving Communion while Kneeling: A man identifying himself as Mariano de Jesús recently confronted Rev. Andrés P. Rousseu-Salet of the parish Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Villa Allende, Córdoba, Argentina, over reports that he prohibits the faithful from receiving Holy Communion while kneeling. Rev. Rousseu-Salet objects to being filmed and blocks the camera with his hand, saying, "You're being disrespectful by filming without authorization." Mariano replies, "We have the right to kneel. The Church instructs us to do so. We are not doing anything wrong."

Según denuncian, el padre Andrés Russeu-Salet estaría negando la comunión a los que se arrodillan para recibirla. Es en Córdoba, República Argentina.

A Story of Two Cathedrals – Catholic Worker Movement

This spring I travelled from my home in Iowa to join Catholic Workers and friends from around the country in New York to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of our movement there on May 1, 1933. An added incentive for this journey was to join with activists from around the globe in witnesses for nuclear abolition on the occasion of the United Nations’ Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference that began on Monday, May 3. It was at the May Day festivities that the word was passed that the archbishop of Nagasaki, Japan, who was in town to address the U.N. conference, would be celebrating the 10:15 Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral the next day and several of us decided we would attend. As Martha Hennessy, visiting from Vermont, and I came out of the subway to walk the final few blocks to the cathedral, we were struck by the number of Japanese pilgrims of all ages on the streets of Midtown, greeting New Yorkers and tourists with gifts of origami cranes, gathering petition signatures,…

Pope Pius XII excommunicates all communist Catholics | July 13, 1949 | HISTORY

On July 13, 1949, the Vatican releases its “Decree Against Communism” to the public. The Cold War-era edict, issued by Pope Pius XII on July 1, excommunicates all communist Catholics. As head of the Roman Catholic church through most of World War II and the first decade of the Cold War—and a fervent anti-Communist—Pius XII authorized the Holy Office to expel from the church any Catholic who joined or even collaborated with “godless” Communists. Franklin C. Gowen, the acting representative at Vatican City to the U.S. Secretary of State, wrote a letter dated July 15, 1949, describing his meeting with a Vatican representative named Giovanni Battista Montini, who discussed the pope’s decree. Montini described communism as the “irreconcilable enemy” of the Catholic church and all of Christianity. Since the 1917 Bolshevik revolution, with its classless, atheistic underpinnings, communism had posed a profound existential threat to Catholicism. Like his predecessors in the Vatican, Pius …

Fantastic article. Shame about the Vatican isn't it? I wonder why they did this, "Because the specific 1949 excommunication of communist Catholics was not incorporated into the 1983 Code, that automatic canonical penalty is no longer in effect." Ah make the Catholic Church safe for communists again!
