Today, Leo XIV sent a prerecorded video message to the 70th-anniversary assembly of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) in Orlando. LCWR is the largest association of leaders of Catholic women religious in the United States. Its members are generally the superiors of congregations of sisters. The video was shown to an overwhelmingly elderly gathering, with scarcely a religious habit or young face in sight. Religious to Become “Experts in Synodality” Leo XIV said that all Christians are called to be “formed in a synodal Church”. He continued: “In a special way, those in religious life are called to become experts in synodality due to the opportunities afforded by community life to practice it.” Then, he praised the assembly's planned “synodal method of listening, discussion and discernment,” expressing the hope that through such “fraternal and receptive dialogue” the sisters would be able to “discern what the Holy Spirit is saying” about “the present and future of consecrated …Mer

"Catholic" Governor Removes Abortion Limits: Massachusetts has removed its gestational limit on abortion. This means that abortions can legally occur until close to birth. Democratic Governor Maura Healey, a "Catholic", signed the law on August 10. Massachusetts bishops opposed the legislation, but no canonical penalties, including excommunication, have followed. Healey was also received by Pope Francis at the Vatican in 2024.

Forget the East Wing. The Real Demolition Has Only Just Begun. Aug. 9, 2026 nytimes.com/…rump-washington-landmarks-arch-pool-… By Paul Goldberger Mr. Goldberger is a former architecture critic for The Times and The New Yorker and the author of “Why Architecture Matters.” The proposed “Arc de Trump” in Washington is less a monument than a gaudy construction the height of a skyscraper — a travesty that, if built, would dramatically change the landscape of the nation’s capital. This is probably why President Trump is so eager to get it made as fast as he can. It would be an unavoidable monument to a presidency and a man whom many Americans would rather not honor so conspicuously, if at all. He understands that once it is there, it will be hard for anyone to make it go away. Change is supposed to happen slowly and carefully in Washington, and there are systems in place to make that so. When the National Park Service said last week that the arch would not only block the vista between the …Mer
Cardinal Matteo Zuppi of Bologna and president of the Italian Bishops’ Conference attended the private funeral of Italian singer-songwriter Francesco Guccini in Pavana on Saturday. He delivered an address, published on Avvenire.it (August 8), in which he practically canonized the self-described agnostic. Guccini, 86, had described himself as an “agnostic possibilist.” Zuppi, who was his friend, recalled that the singer had once told him he wanted the cardinal present at his funeral. Addressing Guccini directly, Cardinal Zuppi imagined what the deceased might now be seeing: “We do not know precisely … what you see: the fullness of that light which, in reality, you had already sensed from here and which you were able to glimpse in the poignant and infinite beauty of life.” Cardinal Zuppi portrayed Guccini’s agnostic doubt positively, as an honest search for truth. “Doubt was your way of standing before things without cheating, with integrity,” he said. “You never stopped asking and listening.” …Mer
Bishop Strickland has a doubt about a possible continuity between the Concile of Vatican 2 and St Pius X magisterium : " If there is continuity, it should be possible to demonstrate it clearly."
Bishop Strickland about modernism within the Church of Leo XIV My dear friends in Christ, Thank you for joining me today. There are some words that once occupied a central place in the life of the Catholic Church but are now seldom heard, and I want to talk about one of those words today. The word is “modernism.” Ask the average Catholic today what modernism is, and many will not know how to answer. Ask when they last heard a sermon about it, and many would say, “Never.” Yet there was a time when the Church regarded modernism as such a grave danger that Pope St. Pius X devoted an entire encyclical to exposing it. In 1907, in Pascendi Dominici Gregis, he called modernism “the synthesis of all heresies.” Those are extraordinary words. Popes do not use language like that lightly. If St. Pius X believed modernism was the synthesis of all heresies, then a question naturally follows: What happened? Did modernism simply disappear? Or have we reached a point where the Church’s own warnings …Mer
Abelardo de la Espriella was sworn in as president of Colombia on August 7 in a ceremony reflecting his Catholic faith. Succeeding left-wing President Gustavo Petro, he took the oath at Santiago de Cali University, accompanied by his wife, their four children, and members of his government team. An image of Our Lady of Fatima stood prominently on the stage. De la Espriella concluded by asking God to bless his children and declaring: “Everything for the homeland… Stand firm for the homeland! Long live Christ the King!”

These monitors on GTV keep burying my posts. Especially important ones that reveal the truth on what's going on with trump. They bury them everyday. They refuse to let them be shown. I have ignored some. TRIED to re-post some. But they bury them as well. This one was also buried almost immediately after posting it. Anyone who is not blocked by the trump base, would you be so kind as to re-post it for me. Please and thank you. And may GOD bless you for your kindness and thoughtfulness. Massachusetts has just eliminated any concrete limit on abortion after 24 weeks. From now on, the final say rests with the "physician's professional judgment." But be careful: don't call it a late-term abortion. That sounds too much like what it actually is. Better to call it "healthcare," add "reproductive rights" to the mix, and top it off with "progress." That way—using the right vocabulary—one can applaud without remorse the fact that a human being in the womb has fewer rights the closer it gets to being born.
Worse than Germany: Cardinal Tarcisio Kikuchi of Tokyo has welcomed the Japanese government's plan to promote "understanding of sexual orientation and gender identity", which was approved on 16 June. The plan involves education and "awareness initiatives" in government, schools, and workplaces, as well as measures to combat "discrimination" against homosexuals. In an interview with UcaNews.com on June 17, Cardinal Kikuchi described the government’s decision as “meaningful”, stating that it had clearly articulated a policy intended to foster a "deeper understanding of sexual minorities". And: "An inclusive community that welcomes everyone is not just an attitude; it is the first step towards building the world that God calls us to create." The cardinal's latest remarks are consistent with his longstanding homosex activism. Tokyo Archdiocese has organised monthly homosexual Eucharists. In 2023, he contributed to the book LGBT and Christianity, promoted by the 'Catholic HIV/AIDS Desk'. …Mer

Priest Clings to Cathedral Column as Earthquake Strikes: The video captured a priest clinging to a column as an earthquake struck western Colombia on August 10. He was celebrating a Eucharist inside the historic Cathedral Basilica of Manizales when the violent shaking began. The cathedral suffered serious damage, including the collapse of one of its side towers. Historically, priests were taught not to abandon the celebration of Mass even during emergencies.

Mónica Astorga spent almost 40 years as a Discalced Carmelite nun in Argentina and became prioress of her convent in Neuquén. She became internationally known for her work with transvestites because of Pope Francis' encouragement. Astorga meanwhile left the convent and trained in hairdressing. The Vatican formally accepted her departure from the Discalced Carmelites in 2024. She “still” considers herself a believer – yet without attending a Eucharist regularly. Long Connection with Bergoglio Her connection with Jorge Mario Bergoglio, the future Pope Francis, began much earlier. Astorga says she met him when he was a Jesuit in Buenos Aires in 1987, nearly two decades before she began working with transvestites. She later described Bergoglio's support for her as “unconditional.” Beginning Her Work with Transvestites Astorga began assisting transvestites in 2006, after one such guy sought help in a parish. Her clientele included prostitutes, people living with HIV, and impoverished or …Mer

“Piracy and robbery” against Russian maritime trade will not go unanswered, the president has said They left out the two trump stole. Russia could seize ships carrying Western cargo in retaliation for similar actions against Russian maritime trade, President Vladimir Putin has warned. There have been several incidents in recent months in which Western militaries have seized vessels that their governments accused of being part of a so-called Russian ‘shadow fleet’. Putin warned on Wednesday during a meeting with Pacific Fleet commanders that Moscow could take retaliatory measures wherever it deemed necessary. “Some nations are violating the Law of the Sea by trying to restrict the movement of our civilian traders. They recently came up with the idea of seizing our ships and selling off our plundered property. This is certainly nothing short of piracy and robbery,” Putin said. “If such a policy is implemented in practice, we will be forced to take mirror responses. And not necessarily in …Mer

– Folha de S. Paulo, June 6, 1987 – by Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira Back in the seventies, the Brazilian newspaper, Folha de S. Paulo, asked Prof. Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira if he favored the end of legal restrictions to divorce. His reply is very applicable to the present debate around same-sex “marriage.” We reproduce the newspaper interview here having in mind the similarity between the two issues. _______________ * * * ________________ The Brazilian Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) had numerous jousts against divorce in its history. Employing every means of action in this struggle, the TFP fought against it until the final moment. The victory of divorce did not result, however, from the fact that a particularly fervid or efficacious pro-divorce onslaught had finally managed to raze the glorious rampart of conjugal indissolubility. Rather, this victory resulted from the lamentable relaxations that occurred within the Catholic milieu itself! But, I insist,…Mer
