Pope Leo XIV Receives Saint Augustine Medal
On the feast of St. Augustine, August 28, 2025, Pope Leo XIV received the Saint Augustine Medal for his “deep commitment to the Order of St. Augustine and the Augustinian values of Truth, Unity, and Charity.” The prestigious medal is presented by the Augustinian Province of St. Thomas of Villanova, United States, representing the entire Augustinian community. Formerly Robert Prevost and twice chosen to lead the order, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to his brothers for the honor, affirming that “so much of who I am, I owe to the spirit and the teachings of Saint Augustine.” Presenting the medal to the pontiff, Father Robert P. Hagan said that the medal celebrated Pope Leo’s unwavering dedication to the poor, his living example of Augustinian values, and his new calling as shepherd to the world.
